Mary (Reiss) Farias – Tucson Gymnastics Center Owner/Program Director
Coach Mary (Reiss) Farias was a competitive gymnast for 17 years. She competed for North Shore Gymnastics Association in Orono, MN as a level 10 gymnast qualifying at the national level multiple times.
Coach Mary received a full athletic scholarship to the University of Arizona to compete for the Division I school’s women’s gymnastics team. During this time, she competed all four years of her eligibility. In addition, Coach Mary was a member of Peer Athletic Leaders and the Student Athlete Advisory Board. During her senior year, her teammates and coaches appointed her team captain. She won multiple awards including the Jim Gault Coaches Award, the Mary Roby Academic Achievement Award, and was named Academic All-American.
During her fifth year of college, Coach Mary worked for the University of Arizona’s women’s gymnastics team as the Undergraduate Assistant Coach, coaching alongside the team's elite gymnastics coaches. Throughout college, she coached for many of the other gymnastics clubs in Tucson, honing her coaching skills and philosophy. After graduating from the University of Arizona, Coach Mary spent over 2 years as the head coach and program director of a local gym, working directly with the owners to create a quality gymnastics program.
Coach Mary is also the author of the children’s fictional gymnastics book series Gym Rats. She is a safety-certified member of USA Gymnastics, the main organization overseeing gymnastics in the country.
